Indication/Uses: Induction & maintenance of general anesth. ICU & MAC sedation.
Dosage/Direction for Use: General anesth Elderly Induction: 1-1.5 mg/kg body wt. Adult induction: 2-2.5 mg/kg body wt. Maintenance: 4-12 mg/kg/hr or ½ dose for elderly/debilitated patients. Childn >3 yr Induction: 2.5-3.5 mg/kg. Maintenance: 9-15 mg/kg/hr. Sedation Initiation: 6-9 mg/kg/hr for 3-5 min. Maintenance: 1.5-4.5 mg/kg/hr. High-risk patient 20% reduction in the maintenance dose. Ventilated adult 3-4 mg/kg/hr for up to 3 days.
Special Precaution: Patients w/ cardiac, resp, renal, hepatic impairment or hypovolemic or debilitated patients. Patients w/ epilepsy, fat metabolism disorder & in other conditions where lipid emulsion must be used cautiously & when the patient is receiving other IV lipids. Monitor for hypotension, airway obstruction, O2 desaturation & blood lipid levels. May impair the ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions: Hypotension, transient apnea, burning in the throat, wheezing, cough, hiccough. Pulmonary edema, post-op fever.
